Archdiocesan Child Protection Policy

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires any adult working with children to undergo a criminal background check and complete a training course aimed at educating adults about signs of possible sex abuse. VIRTUS training and a background check must be completed before any volunteering can take place that involves a child.

All priests, deacons, other ministers, employees and volunteers who may have contact with children, young people and individuals at risk as part of their duties are required to complete the VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children Awareness Session. These sessions are three hours long. You must register online in advance. Click on the registration section in the left hand column of the screen. You do not need a parish or school employee to register you. The VIRTUS program is an ongoing educational process that includes monthly bulletins with a variety of information. If you fall behind in reading these electronic bulletins, your status with the Archdiocese will be suspended until you take the initial VIRTUS training course again. This occurs if you miss three or more bulletins; it does not matter if it is three consecutive bulletins. There is no charge for the VIRTUS session.

Guardian Angels can provide you a Token (code) to cover the cost of your background check. To obtain that information, contact Rose Ann Miller at (513)624-8962 or email her,
